Your Personal Action Plan
- How often do you seek opportunities to learn new things at work, such as a technology or software program, the latest process improvement or new developments in your field of expertise? Whatever your answer, try to increase the frequency of new learning.
- Do you often assume you're not up to the challenge of learning something new? That you "can't" learn certain things, and therefore don't try? If so, examine why you make this assumption.
- Use the chart on daily rhythms to keep a record of your peak energy periods for a week. Identify your best time to learn. When you have control over the scheduling of training sessions, such as with a self-directed online training module, do them when you are at your peak mental capacity.
- Investigate learning and training resources and develop a list of offerings you're interested in.
- Develop a plan with your boss to incorporate job-related training opportunities you would like to undertake into your schedule.
- Support your learning by taking positive steps to maintain brain health: getting regular exercise and sufficient sleep, eating an antioxidant-rich diet, and pursuing engaging social interaction.
