Wise Between Your Ears At Work

What does wisdom mean to you? Whose wisdom inspires you? Do your emotional reactions ever get in the way of making wise choices? Ask yourself the following questions, and get in the habit of thinking about wisdom as a path you can choose in your work life.

  • Name three people you consider "wise."
  • What key quality or qualities makes them wise in your eyes?
  • Do you ever find yourself acting impulsively, based on an emotional reaction to something (say, a critical review or a co-worker's mistake), and later regretting your actions?
  • Think of an instance where you have made a wise choice at work. What went into the decision? Was it based on prior experience, careful reflection, or emotional impulse?
  • Now think of an instance where your course of action, in retrospect, was unwise. What went into that decision?
